Great photography shouldn’t be unaffordable!

This WordPress blog is not public.

Hey everyone!

So I’ve been doing a bit of market research lately and I simply had to share a few thoughts…

I’m absolutely blown away by the prices that I have seen quoted by some studios for their services and by what you get for parting with your hard earned cash!! It seems to me that some of these studios are expecting a swath of lotto winners to fall into their laps.. and maybe they do.. but back in the real world I firmly believe that you shouldn’t have to re-mortgage your home in order to get professional photos of your little one’s birthday or mam and dad’s special anniversary, or that special moment that you head off to your debs, or the many other wonderful moments that our clients come to us to capture!

Our studio sittings start at €50, with options for extended shoots also available, and one thing we are very proud of is that, unlike most studios, as part of your shoot with us you will get a set of 6×4 prints of your photos.  So instead of handing over your money and being told that’s great now come back next week and you can look at ‘your’ photos on our computer and then being charged an extra cost to get a print of ONE of your photos, with a shoot from Johnny Ryan Photography you can walk away with actual photos to show off to your friends and family!  That’s definitely something to smile about!!

Studio shoot children

Of course you can order enlargements in many different sizes from us, aswell as canvas prints and cds of all of your images or even keyrings, snowglobes and christmas baubles (oops is it too early for the C word???) but these are also very competitively priced and we believe that if you order a few different things from us, or are a returning customer, you are most certainly entitled to a special discount! 😉  Something that always makes our day here is to see the families that we have worked with and watched grow up over many years returning to book their own weddings or studio sittings and christening shoots for their own families.  No wonder there’s often a tear shed and a sense of pride at some of these events.

Wedding Photography

I often read blogs and see fellow photographers saying that you ‘you should never undervalue your art’ and suggesting that that is reason enough to charge exorbitant prices for photography work. Speaking as someone with a Degree in Fine Art and a strong love and connection to my own art photography and to the work and processes that has brought me to where I am, yes I firmly believe that you should place a strong value on the work you produce and that you should never undervalue the time, expertise and experience that you have put into every photograph taken.  But that is precisely why I also believe that as photographers we have a duty to share that art and allow it to be accessible to those around us at realistic and sensible prices.  I do not want my customers to feel that beautiful images of their special moments are unobtainable or out of their reach purely because they can’t afford to spend a fortune.

'Kiss It Better'

That is why, when you come to us at Johnny Ryan Photography we will sit down with you and discuss what exactly you want and we will try our hardest to make that happen for you at the best possible price.

So with all that said, if you do have a special occasion coming up, or you just want some nice photos of yourself or your loved ones..why not get in touch with us.

All too often, we are asked to edit photos when someone has passed away because the family don’t have any photos of the person on their own.  Thankfully we can offer that service aswell as all sorts of photo restoration and manipulation….

Photo Restoration 1 2

But don’t let edited photos be the only saviour at times like that.  I cannot stress enough the importance of making memories and saving those moments as photos while you still can.  Life is short and often we don’t value the photos we have until they are all we have left.

da86444aab14d414879f86fd35977864

Oh and don’t forget…. it doesn’t have to be a special occasion to come looking for us.  We even do passports!! And we specialize in baby passports.. we haven’t been beaten yet! Passport photo requirements have become so strict over the last few years that it really is worth doing it right the first time.  There is nothing more annoying than having your forms sent back to you because your photo doesn’t conform to the requirements. So for only €8 (€10 for babies because they take longer generally) it pays to pop in to us.

Passport photography

And of course.. don’t forget if we took your photo at an event you can always order those photos in loads of different sizes by calling to the studio and having them printed while you wait or by going to the shop on our website www.johnnyryanphotography.ie and ordering from there.

ten_percent_off studio booking

Pssst!!   As a little reward for reading the blog you can avail of a special 10% discount when you book a studio session with us from now until Halloween! All you have to do is mention this blog when booking. 😉 See.. wasn’t that worth the read!!

See you all soon and thanks for reading,

The magic of Lavally Lake Dawn Mass

This WordPress blog is not public.

We don’t put all of the jobs we do up on the website by any means but I just had to share these photos from the 6am Lavally Lake Dawn Mass on Easter Sunday.

https://www.theimagefile.ie/?skin=558810&Action=_VC&id=17716610&ppwd=24768hkt

For anyone who hasn’t experienced it, I would recommend you set the alarm next year..and believe me I’m not a morning person!!

DSC_0001

There is something really magical about mass at the lake every year. There was an even more magical element this time as the lake was covered in a blanket of fog!

DSC_0112

This year mass was celebrated by Fr. Francis Mitchell and he had great help from a crew of local mass servers who were well wrapped up for the occasion!

DSC_0101

The mass is a credit to all of the local people who help with setting up the altar, the field, arranging parking, do readings, prayers, bring up gifts, etc. Not to mention the ladies who warm everyone up with teas, coffees and lovely treats and the Easter Bunny who has easter eggs for all of the little kids..and some big ones…yes I really enjoyed mine thanks! Hehe!!

If you follow the link at the top you can see all of the photos I took on the morning. There is also a good spread in today’s Connacht Tribune too. Photos can be bought directly from the website both as prints and digital downloads or you can pop in to the studio on Bishop Street to order them either!

P.S. I said a prayer for ye all while I was there. 😉

Jacinta.

All the way to Ballyglunin to pop the question!!

This WordPress blog is not public.

We were delighted to get the call last Saturday to go to Ballyglunin station for a very special photo shoot.  Stephen Orme from Co. Down had come all the way to the little station made famous in the film ‘The Quiet Man’ to propose to his girlfriend Mary Murray.  Stephen had got in touch with the Ballyglunin Restoration Project six months earlier to help him to organise the special surprise.

The couple met when they were both studying at Queens University in Belfast. Both Stephen and Mary are long time fans of the film The Quiet Man. They both have fond memories of their families sitting down to watch the movie on a Sunday afternoon. So what better place to propose!!DSC_0036 ed

Stephen and Mary carried on their Quiet Man themed holiday by visiting Cong. We hope they managed to see the full page spread they got in this weeks Connacht Tribune. It’s lovely to be able to share a good news story every so often…and everyone loves a good love story! 🙂 <3 Huge congrats Stephen and Mary from Jacinta and Johnny. xxx

If you know Stephen and Mary we’d love if you would share our blog with them. Also don’t forget that we are available to photograph engagement shoots both in the studio or on location. That’s all for now!

Thanks for reading again.  Jacinta. xxx

Hello world!!

This WordPress blog is not public.
Me!
Me!

Hi everyone! I’m Jacinta and as some of you know at this stage I am now officially the owner of Johnny Ryan Photography!! Having worked here for Johnny for 9 years, I have now taken over the business … some may say I was always the bossy one .. lol! .. but now I’m allowed! 😉

So the first thing on my wish list was to set up a new website and create an online shop for people to order photos taken at the various socials, parties and events we do. Check! At the end of last year I created and launched the new website http://www.johnnyryanphotography.ie/ and imagine my excitement when I was lazing on the couch after dinner on Christmas day and I got an email to say I had sold a photo!!! On Christmas Day!!! Result! Since then the online sales have been steady and I can highly recommend the lovely people at The Image File for creating such a seamless and foolproof system that I have been able to navigate and understand it without throwing the laptop out the window! 🙂

Things have moved nicely since then and now you can even buy gift vouchers straight from the website too! I am learning as I go, like I always do, and I will be developing the website more as I go on. Thanks to everyone for the feedback so far. It’s been a great help!

As for day to day life in the studio …we are still based on Bishop Street, right beside Tyrrells. UPSTAIRS .. in case anyone can’t find us. 🙂 We are busy booking for confirmation and communion season at the minute. It’s great to see the diary filling up.

As for Johnny, don’t panic, he will not be disappearing totally on us. He’s not one for retiring to the sun, or the golf course!!! He will still be out and about with his camera … but at least now he can enjoy it as a hobby again and have the time to appreciate life ‘through the lens’.

I will be blogging regularly I hope as well as keeping the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/JohnnyRyanPhotography up to date as always. I will be posting plenty of photos on here aswell as showing you some of the photo restoration and editing jobs I am working on.

For now, thanks for reading and please give the blog, website or facebook page a share if you get a moment! Thanks!!! xxx Jacinta.
